vegetarian

recently became a vegetarian. i should say vegetarian-ish.  no meat eating per say but i will eat fish, dairy, eggs, and other products that may contain animal fat or juices.  today makes day 8. so far so good. a lot more gassy but a lot less nauseous.  i may indulge in the occasional meat food in the future. like take me to peter luger's and i'm eating a steak. even a garbage can eats a steak. but i'm just not cooking meat at home or ordering it from the everyday eatery.

Chivalry, stick a fork in it! Its done! You can beat it with a stick, its deader than a dead horse.

I am so tired of seeing men race women for seats on the train.  I am tired of them going to sit and not even looking around to see if a woman needs a seat.  I don't necessarily mean me.  Although that would be nice.  I am talking about little old lady types, or big old lady types, or not so old lady types, or pregnant lady types, or obviously in pain or injured lady types, or old men lady types.  I could go on and on about who should be sitting before an able bodied 18-55 year old man.  I can count on one hand the number of times a man has gotten up for me.  And again, I'd only need the one hand to count the number of times I've seen a man get up for any of the types listed above.  I've actually gotten up more to offer my seat.  Its amazing how the men sit so proudly, so accomplished after they've dashed through a crowd to get to a seat.  I remember one time I got on the 1 train at 96th street going uptown.  I took a look down the row of 8 seats in the middle of the train.  Who was there? 7 of the 8 were healthy men.  I looked around to see who was standing nearby in seat-offerable position.  There were at least 8 women.  I don't know, or necessarily care where this all falls in the women's equality movement.  But it just seems wrong, especially when men are practically knocking women over, pushing them out the way, and basically telling those who really need a seat, "move bitch get out the way!"

Just My Opinion...

2 Thumbs up!

Trader Joe's Beef-less Ground Beef

I do not agree with the caption btw.  As a recent former meat eater I think its a great substitute.

Trader Joe's Veggie Burgers

Have a hint of a cumin or curry taste.  I eat it like on the pic but on wheat bread with mayo and dijon horseradish mustard.

food, poison, toture? what's a little rat meat among friends?

After reading up on dog food ingredients and it's production and subsequently meat processing for humans I think I'm going to be a vegetarian, the kind that eats fish and seafood, not the annoying kind that looks at all of the ingredients in every little food thing. I'll be the kind that just doesn't indulge in big slabs of meat and leans towards food that once had roots. I decidedly will not be the obsessed type inquiring, "what's this made of?" to determine if there is .05 ml of beef juice in something.  Just a little more aware and decisive.  I've already taken to tempeh and tofu so this should not be too difficult.  Wow! I feel less nauseous already.

Did you know it is perfectly legal to have a little rat meat mixed in with your ground beef and sausage?  It is even worse when it comes to pet food plants.

On a side note, this is something interesting I learned about dog meat in China.  No not meat for dogs, but the meat of dogs for human consumption.  I always thought the dog/cat warnings about Chinese restaurants was an urban legend.  I guess not .  :(

is she crazy? am i?

So I was out to lunch today with my family.  I missed watching the Giants win today but I guess it was for a good cause.  That aside, After eating I went with my sister to get the car that was parked about 5 blocks away so we could come back and get my mom.  As we were pulling up I felt the need to pee so I ran back in told my mom we were here with the car and ran to the single person female bathroom.  As I was pushing the door open this older 40-50 something woman with bush grayish-blond hair says, "oh wait!"  holding her hands flatly together in a prayer like formation as if to say please can I go first.  I turn around, look at her with my not yet patented, Candace heifer is you crazy? face on, and waited for about 3 seconds for her to regain her composure, and I can only assume also her sanity.  Then she laughed and said, "oh ha ha, never mind."  I said, "indeed," and added a "humphf" and laughed to myself as I turned around and went in the bathroom first.  Like, is she crazy? Really?  What in her mind made her think that because she was too slow to get to the bathroom ahead of me that I should stop and let her in first?  I didn't see her coming and really I grew up with the rule if you get there first, you're first, unless of course there is some overwhelming reason to do otherwise.  And just in case you are curious, THERE WASN"T!!!!! I happened to see her after she came out from using the men's room as she was instructed to do by the waitress nearby.  She returned to her seat.  So I must assume that privilege had gotten the best of this woman and she temporarily lost her mind.  But have to admit I don't know for sure because I didn't care enough to ask.

MTA... Going Nowhere!

The ‎1 train. Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

My experience today was awful.  All I wanted to do was go home and thats all it seemed the MTA would not let me do.  I managed to survive the F train, also often appropriately named.  I made it from Carroll Street to 14th Street on the F without incident.  I navigated that godawful avenue long tunnel that connects 6th Ave to the IRT 1/2/3on 7th Ave.  I decide to get on the 1 local train because the 2/3 express had limited service to the Bronx in the middle of rush hour due to a signal problem at 96th street.  I figured that it was better to be on a local train heading home than no train at all, as did many others waiting on the platform that were inevitably going to change over to the 1 at 96th street anyway.  So, we all shuffle in the doors of the 1 train.  After leaving 14th street and any other options for transportation behind we chug into 18th street.  Over the PA system we hear, "This 1 train is out of service. Everybody off the train please. This train is out of service! There is a 1 train directly behind this train."  A few seconds later we hear, "There is an uptown 1 local train approaching the station." Yay I think to myself.  Then I hear, "The 1 train approaching the station will not top at this station." Are you kidding me? Really?  Then again I hear, "There is an uptown 1 local train approaching the station." This train they decide to let us on.  It is packed already so I pass on boarding.  Again I hear, "There is an uptown 1 local train approaching the station"  Finally!!! I get on the train local at 18st to way up here to where I live.  It manages to go as slowly as possible from station to station for 139 blocks taking like an hour to reach my stop.  As I exited the train I swear I heard, "This has been a test of your patience sponsored by the MTA. Thank you for riding although we know you have no other choice. Remember, if you see something, say something!"
